What are anti-inflammatory foods?
Anti-inflammatory foods are foods that actively fight inflammation, the immune system’s natural response to an irritant. While inflammation is a normal bodily process, ongoing (or "chronic") inflammation can contribute to disease.
Foods that are considered anti-inflammatory usually contain a significant amount of at least one chemical with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. These include dietary polyphenols, phenolic acids, flavonoids, and, proanthocyanidins, among others.
Fruits, vegetables, grains, spices, and herbs are the foods richest in these properties.
