Cooking for Dietary Restrictions: Tips, Tricks, and Recipes

Accommodating dietary restrictions doesn’t have to mean bland or boring meals. In this free training, AFPA’s registered dietitian and a professional chef team up to explore how to create flavorful, satisfying dishes that align with common dietary restrictions and clinical guidelines. From diabetes and heart health to gluten-free and gut-friendly, you’ll learn how you can help others transform a limitation into an inspiration.

Whether you’re supporting a client through a new diagnosis or simply wanting to learn more about cooking, you’ll leave this session with meal-building strategies and cooking techniques to keep food the way it should be: joyful and nourishing.

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Explain how to build balanced meals that align with specific dietary restrictions without sacrificing flavor or variety.
  • Identify common health-promoting diets and the restrictions they create.
  • Discuss practical ingredient swaps and cooking techniques to support diverse dietary needs.
  • Recognize the role of enjoyment and flexibility in supporting sustainable dietary habits.
  • Explain how to reframe dietary restrictions as opportunities for creativity and skill-building.
