Out of Sight, Out of Mind; How Spinal Hygiene Can Meanthe Difference Between Sickness and Health

By Dr. Josh Gilbert, D.C.

The major reason for people not flooding my Chiropractic office is the fact that they can’t see their spines. Most people don’t see what I see. I have been trained to look for problems that once described become obvious.

To see what I see do this: look at your family members or the next time you are in a crowded place watch how people walk and move about. Notice if they are looking straight ahead or if there head is turned or tilted to the right or left. Notice if one of their shoulders is higher than the other. Are their hips even? When they walk do both of their arms move the same way or does one seem to move a lot more than the other? And finally as you glance from head to toe, look to see if there is a limp or if the person’s feet point in/out/or if they are different from right to left. There is a valuable lesson as viewed through chiropractic eyes.

To digress a second, most people understand the benefit of getting regular dental check-ups.
They usually can see or feel when teeth misalign or begin to decay. The major problem with spinal hygiene is:

1. spinal problems usually take years before they are bad enough to cause a symptom or pain.
2. people can’t see their spines and when they do have a skeletal complaint they usually don’t think it is coming from the spine.

Many people go years and years and most people never get their spines checked. The average person that comes into my office has had dozens of dental office visits before they see me for their first spinal office visit.

The truth is that your spine protects your most vital system; your nervous system. When you are in alignment your body functions better and is healthier. You can get new teeth or have something done so that they function or look better but you can’t get a new spine. Waiting to do something after symptoms arise is reactive and will cost you more in time, effort, and money. Getting your spine checked regularly to see if you have a problems is pro-active and can mean the difference between a healthy life or one filled with endless drug prescriptions or surgeries.

The body can heal itself when obstacles are removed. It is the job of the chiropractor to find and remove the interference from your healing potential. Once people begin to learn they will find out that nature needs no help, just no interference.
