“A vigorous five-mile walk will do more good for an unhappy but otherwise healthy adult than all the medicine and psychology in the world.”

Did You Know?

The antioxidant flavonoids in green tea can alter the body’s use of norephinephrine, a chemical transmitter in the nervous system, and increase the rate of calorie burning.

Vitamin C and herbs such as nettles, thyme and fenugreek can help relieve springtime allergies associated with mold and tree pollen.

Research has found that eating an apple a day can actually improve lung functions, due to the fact that apples are rich in antioxidants.

CR instead of CPR?

Recent research has found that performing chest compressions alone save just as many heart attack victims as compressions with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, providing that CR is initiated in the same timely fashion as the traditional CPR. This finding will help to save many more lives, due to the fact that only 15 percent of people surveyed would give mouth to mouth to a stranger down from 50 percent 10 years ago. The reason given? The fear of communicable diseases [hepatitis, and aids]. When given the option of chest compressions only, 68 percents of those individuals interviewed stated they would be willing to give chest compressions.

What is Yellow root [Golden Seal] [Hydrastis Canadensis; Ranunculaceae]?

Golden Seal has such a wide variety of applications in the treatment of detoxification within the human body that it is dizzying. I have read extensively on the application of Yellow root in the treatment of drug and alcohol abuse treatment to the application in the treatment of parasites.

Golden Seal is one of the “Master Herbs” in Chinese medicine and references to it’s amazing application can be traced back over 1,000 years.
I consider this herb along with Ginseng to be two of the most important for the human body.

Question: why do you feel “the burn” only in the quadriceps and the biceps muscles, and not in the other muscle groups?

The “Burn” is actually a combination of increased blood flow to the working muscle, coupled with accumulation of Lactic Acid resulting from the breakdown of glucose in an anaerobic state.

This can be heightened in one muscle group over another by a variety of factors, including, but not limited to: shorter contraction of the muscle concentrically due to improper seat height during cycling, more local isolation during the leg extension. Muscle fiber type concentration in certain muscle groups not necessarily found in other muscle groups in the same individual.

Many times the burn is not felt as greatly in compound exercises [lunges, squats, leg presses] rowing movements, etc.

Exercise Boosts Sex Life-Really!

Researchers have found that couples that exercise together report better relationships-on many levels, including sexual ones. Brain chemicals are released through exercise [endorphins], which improve our mood and outlook on life. Exercise also increases physical fitness and improves circulation. Exercising in Reverse

What seems to be the latest craze in the gym is exercising in reverse on certain pieces of cardio-vascular equipment-namely elliptical trainers and stationary cycles. This practice has been promoted as “working” the glutes more directly. Actually, research has shown that there are not increased benefits from this practice and increased risk of injury. The fact of the matter is that the muscles that are supposedly targeted during this reverse action are virtually idle during backwards workouts. In addition the quadriceps are doing most of the work, and the force generated and incorrect posture increases risk to lower-back injury.
